ATD Speaks Out on Fuel Economy Rules

CHICAGO - At a hearing Nov. 15 on a proposal to establish first-ever fuel economy rules for commercial and work trucks and engines, the chairman of the American Truck Dealers (ATD) urged federal regulators to ensure that any new mandates are "appropriate, cost-effective and technologically feasible."

Truck-Involved Traffic Fatalities Reach Historic Low; Decline by 20 Percent in 2009

ARLINGTON, VA - The number of truck-involved traffic fatalities declined 20 percent in 2009, dropping from 4,245 in 2008 to 3,380 in 2009. The reduction is the lowest level in recorded Department of Transportation history and also shows a 33-percent decrease in fatalities since the improved hours-of-service regulations first became effective in January 2004.

NHTSA Issues New Braking Rules for Large Trucks

WASHINGTON - The new standard requires that a tractor-trailer traveling at 60 miles per hour comes to a complete stop in 250 feet instead of the previous 355 feet listed in the old standard.
