Naturalistic Study Refines Understanding of Distracted Driving Behavior

SAN DIEGO - DriveCam Inc. announced the results of a study to understand cell phone distraction in commercial trucks and buses, including any cell phone activity that involves using one's hands (texting/e-mailing/dialing/accessing the Internet) while driving significantly increased the odds of involvement in a crash/near crash.

Truck-Involved Traffic Fatalities Reach Historic Low; Decline by 20 Percent in 2009

ARLINGTON, VA - The number of truck-involved traffic fatalities declined 20 percent in 2009, dropping from 4,245 in 2008 to 3,380 in 2009. The reduction is the lowest level in recorded Department of Transportation history and also shows a 33-percent decrease in fatalities since the improved hours-of-service regulations first became effective in January 2004.
